Rainstorm heading toward Vancouver, up to 30 mm expected by Wednesday morning

Sunshine this morning and clouds this afternoon. But the forecast is calling for wide-spread rain with the worst of it overnight and into the morning rush.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Rainstorms aren’t something Vancouverities typically think about in July.

But while it’s starting out clear and sunny — and it will be mild and dry for much of the day — it’s likely to get very wet tonight, and not just in one area.

Showers are forecast to start before sunset, which is expected to turn into heavy rain overnight and last into the morning rush hour. Up to 30 millimeters is expected, while most areas will see 15-25 millimeters.

Typically, downpours mid-summer are because of isolated thunderstorms, but in this case, the forecast is calling for widespread rain. The worst of it is expected through the night as this big weather system picks up steam across the Pacific.

The drive home should be okay, but the morning commute could be another story.
