VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A local activist says that the type of hatred seen in recent tweets from U.S. President Donald Trump is not just found south of the border.

Rocco Trigueros, who organized a protest in Vancouver against the American migrant detention centres, says he sees that behaviour here all the time.

He said several groups tried to stop the protest that occurred on July 12 before it even happened.

“It’s here. As much as we want to think that’s it’s only happening in the United States, we need to be clear that we have the same level of racism her in our province and our country,” Trigueros says.

Trump unleashed a series of tweets against four Democratic women of colour, where he told them to get out the the United States.

Several people have condemned the tirade as racist and xenophobic.
