SOUTH SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A man is dead and another has been arrested after a deadly stabbing in South Surrey Friday morning.
Mounties were called to the area near the Semiahmoo Shopping Centre around 3:00 a.m. When they arrived, they found the victim with stab wounds, who later died of his injuries.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the arrest was made thanks to the K-9 squad.
“They responded quickly to the incident and they were able to track and… arrest the male that we have in custody at the moment,” Sgt. Frank Jang with IHIT said.
While the Surrey RCMP had reported this appeared to be a targeted incident, IHIT says that has not yet been determined.
“Right now we’re not certain, we haven’t identified our victim — we’re working towards that,” Jang said.
Investigators continue to gather information, and are expected to be on scene for a couple of days. IHIT says a home a couple of blocks from where the victim was found is also part of the investigation.
The home is where the arrest was made, Jang adds.
Meantime, it’s believed there may have been more than one suspect involved.
“It is quite possible,” Jang explained. “There may have been more than several people at the scene, we just don’t know right now. It’s that early.”
People who live near where the man was found were surprised to find a crime scene Friday morning.
“I just heard the helicopter and figured something was up, because you don’t normally hear them that early,” Scott, who lives in the area, said.
Another person says he was arriving at the MacDonald’s facing the parking lot when he heard someone had been stabbed.
“I showed up, there was a body covered in a yellow tarp,” the man told NEWS 1130.
The latest violence comes just two weeks after a gang-related shooting at another South Surrey mall left a known gang member dead.
Road closures are in place near the mall.
