VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – People living in the Vancouver area can continue to say they live in one of the most liveable cities in the world, at least according to The Economist.
The Greater Vancouver area has found itself in the publication’s top 10 once again, sitting in sixth spot. It’s been outranked by Calgary, which slipped to fifth spot from fourth last year in the Global Liveability Index of 2019.
The Economist puts Vienna, Austria at the top of the list, followed by Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. Osaka, Japan comes in at fourth place.
The separation between first and second place was only 0.7 percentage points, according to the Index.
Vancouver is followed by Toronto, which finds itself in seventh place.
The Economist Intelligence Unit looks at the cities’ living conditions, and assesses liveability based on a number of factors across five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
“Our liveability rating quantifies the challenges that might be presented to an individual’s lifestyle in any given location, and allows for direct comparison between locations,” the report reads.
Other cities that made the top 10 list include Tokyo, Japan, Copenhagen, Denmark, and Adelaide, Australia.
Damascus, Syria found itself in last place at 140, followed by Lagos, Nigeria, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Tripoli, Libya.
Just last month, Maclean’s ranked the City of Vancouver 112th in its annual list of Canada’s Best Communities to live in.
