Lightning strike suspected cause of massive power outage in parts of B.C.

B.C. Hydro says a lightning strike is likely what caused a massive power outage Wednesday night in the Northern and Central Interior regions of British Columbia.

At its peak, around 124,000 customers were without power, including most of Prince George.

Power has since been restored to all customers.

B.C. Hydro says the possible strike is believed to have caused a transmission failure.

Communities including Prince George, Vanderhoof, Smithers, Fort St John, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Hudsons Hope, Houston and Burns Lake were affected.
