A story of underground healing: documentary about medicinal psychedelics to premier

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Less than a month after a motion on magic mushrooms was debated by Vancouver City Council, a documentary film is premiering that tells the story of one Vancouver woman who found recovery using psychedelics.
“DOSED” premiers in Vancouver Monday at the Vogue Theatre. It was filmed in Vancouver and follows Adrianne, a young woman who–like many others in the city–is addicted to fentanyl. But her story is different. She’s recently found recovery using guided psilocybin mushroom and psychedelic trips. The film is a story about how trauma impacts us in the deepest ways and how diving into consciousness could be a way to end the pain.
BC Centre for Substance Use researcher Elena Argento will be attending the Vancouver premier on Oct. 7.
“People think that [mushrooms] are addictive, or that people just replace an addiction with an addiction to psilocybin mushrooms. In fact that’s really not the case. Psychedelics are really not addictive substances,” she says.

Argento adds there is evidence people can quit smoking using psychedelics.
“These substances are increasing feelings of optimism, connectedness and community, enhancing life meaning and spiritual well-being,” she says.
Argento will be joined by world-renowned mycologist Paul Stamets and a number of leading researchers in the psychedelic field.
There will be a Q&A with the audience to demystify the facts, as clinical trials in the United States and Canada are showing promising results treating PTSD and other mental health issues.
