Sea to Sky Gondola ramps up security as repairs continue

SQUAMISH (NEWS 1130) – Sea to Sky Gondola staff are doing everything they can to avoid being the target of criminals again.
The popular tourist attraction is ramping up security as it replaces a cable and 30 gondola cars that were sabotaged almost three months ago.
The line was deliberately cut in August, sending the gondolas tumbling down. Who did it, and why, is still a mystery.

Sea to Sky Gondola General Manager Kirby Brown says they have added additional security measures in the months since, and are rolling out more in the weeks to come, as a new cable is installed and the gondolas arrive from Europe.
Brown says that includes both preventative measures and detection measures.
“I’d rather not comment specifically in this case, but we definitely have added the things common sense [brings] to mind – detection systems, deterrents, lights, camera, action, that kind of stuff is all out there now.”
He says many ski resorts and gondola operators in Western Canada have also beefed up security since the incident.
The lift is expected to reopen in the spring of next year.
