Practice emergency response exercise underway in North Van

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – North Shore Emergency Management is holding an exercise to test its post-disaster relief and logistics on Tuesday.

The exercise runs from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., with emergency vehicles and aircraft in the area of Cates Park in North Vancouver.

The scenario takes place a week after a disaster has occurred, and the North Shore is running out of food, water and resources. Emergency personnel are practicing transporting municipal staff and delivering supplies.

They’re exploring what would happen if both the Lions Gate and the Ironworkers Memorial bridges were out of commission, and are using helicopters and boats to get across Burrard Inlet.

Anyone who lives east of the Seymour River is invited to join in between 9 a.m. and the end of the exercise.

The first 200 people who participate can pick up some free items, including a personal emergency kit.
