VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A heavy bronze statue of a horse worth about $24,000 stolen from outside a Vancouver art gallery last week has been recovered.
A post on Reddit claims it was discovered outside a pizza place in Gastown.
Vancouver Police Sergeant Aaron Roed says investigators had been working to find the statue since it first was taken earlier this month.
“Detectives from our Property Crime Unit have actively been investigating this file and we are pleased to say the statue of the horse has been recovered,” he says. “The staff from the art gallery have been notified and are very excited to be getting it back.”
Sgt. Roed says while they statue is returning to its rightful place, no arrests have been made so far.
“There has been no charges laid at this time, we don’t have anyone in custody. We are hoping that in the future we will be able to identify somebody, and we will be going from there as more and more evidence comes toward us,” he adds. “We are still investigating this incident, and we’re gathering as much evidence as we can.”
Surveillance video had shown an individual walk up to the statue with a dolly and taking it away.
The statue is about 50 inches tall, 27 inches wide and weighs 350 pounds, and had been outside the Petley Jones Art Gallery at Granville Street and 7th.
