Free parking or not people still going to Granville Island: poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – According to a new poll, most people in Metro Vancouver aren’t deterred from visiting Granville Island despite the lack of free, daytime parking.

This finding comes from Research Co., nearly six months after Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation changed its policy to no longer allow free parking from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Nearly 20 per cent of people surveyed say they’re more likely to go since the change, 40 per cent say they’re indifferent, and only 1 in 3 say they’re less likely to go.

In the past two years, 18 per cent of people from Metro Vancouver visited Granville Island six or more times, and 42 per cent would visit two to five times.

A majority of Metro Vancouverites visits continue to be for shopping at the Public Market or stores outside the market, sightseeing and a quick bite. And some visit to Arts and Culture performance.
