Four isn’t enough: Surrey Board of Trade pushes for six-lane Pattullo Bridge replacement

By

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – It’s just not enough. That’s coming from the CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade, who’s pleading with the province to re-visit its decision on a four-lane replacement for the aging Pattullo Bridge.

Anita Huberman says we need to make sure we are prepared for the future and six lanes would be a better idea.

“Because of our population growth and also because Surrey needs different ways to move our people move our goods, we need to ensure that our transportation infrastructure is prepared for the future and that we’re not just playing catch up,” she says.

The province says it may start as four lanes, but Huberman says that’s just not enough.

“Simply opening a new bridge in 2023 with four wider lanes just isn’t acceptable in terms of what this population needs.”

A letter from the province to the Board says the bridge is being built to allow potential expansion to six lanes.

However, that could only happen after consultation with the province, Indigenous groups, and others.
