VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Amid concern over the novel coronavirus, the performing group Shen Yun wants Vancouverites to know that its members have not been to China in years.
The group says it has received numerous inquiries into whether or not the ten performances scheduled for March at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre will proceed.
“Shen Yun is based in New York, not China. Performers have not been to China in years, have not had recent direct contact with people from China, and in fact Shen Yun is not even allowed to perform in China” reads a release. And so audience members can enjoy Shen Yun performances resting assured that Shen Yun and its performers have been isolated from today’s China.”
The group says their performances have gotten them blacklisted by the Chinese government and alleges Chinese officials have actively tried to shut down Shen Yun shows in other countries.
