NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Police are still looking for the driver of a camper-pickup that tore through a North Vancouver neighbourhood, leaving a path of destruction in its wake before dawn Monday.
Just after 4 a.m. police received a call from a homeowner reporting being woken up by the sound of a truck careening onto his lawn near Lonsdale and 25th Street.
“When the homeowner went outside, the driver of the truck struck him in the arm with a metal bar, then drove off. North Vancouver RCMP responded and began a hunt for the truck,” reads a release from the RCMP.
The driver continued, apparently undeterred by the confrontation with the homeowner.
“It didn’t take long to find other signs of damage. The same truck appears to have been in a collision with a taxi, a parked car, and another motorist in the area of 29th and Lonsdale. It also struck several signs and did other property damage.”
Around 5:30 a.m. police were called to Wagg Creek Park where the gate had been rammed before the truck was apparently abandoned on the sports field with the driver side door open.
Officers and dogs combed the nearby trails, but the driver has not been found.
The North Vancouver RCMP say they continue to receive reports of “damage done” by the truck and are searching the vehicle for forensic evidence.
The are looking for anyone who saw the truck or driver, specifically anyone who might have dashcam or surveilance video.
Anyone with information can call 604-985-1311.
