VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A liquor store in Vancouver has wiped down the sandwich board in front of its doors after someone wrote something a little controversial this week.
It was posted Wednesday or Thursday — management is still trying to figure that out and who wrote it.
The sign said: “What Goes with the Coronavirus? Lyme Disease! Ha!”
It was up for about a day before the staff took it down.
Connor Tkach with the Coal Harbour Liquor Store says no customers seemed offended and some actually laughed but he says they realize it was in bad taste.
“We actually didn’t have anyone form any complaint against us.”
Tkach isn’t sure but thinks the joke was copied from another post floating around online. Regardless, he admits what was written should have never been put up on the board. “Moving forward, we’re not testing those waters ever again. This is something that is affecting a lot of people’s lives now and causing a lot of harm in people’s lives, physically, mentally and emotionally. Going forward that will not be a thing on our sandwich boards. You can have jokes, you can have sell points to put on the board to get people into your store but that is not an approach that I would personally ever take to take advantage of a topical thing such as that.”
He says once they nail down who posted it, that person will likely be given a warning not to do something like this again.
“We have a bunch of staff and a couple of people do write on the board but we’ve never had that reaction. We’ve never had a call from a news station, let’s just put it that way, regarding anything.”
