WHISTLER (NEWS 1130) – If you were hoping to sneak in one last day on the slopes on Whistler Blackcomb, you’re out of luck.
The resort will remain shut down for the remainder of the 2019-2020 winter ski season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, Vail Resorts — which owns Whistler Blackcomb — had made the decision to suspend operations until March 22.
It now says all of its North American resorts and retail stores will remain closed until the next season.
“Our decision to end the season now is evidence of the fast-moving situation involving COVID-19, and it was not an easy one to make as we deeply considered the extended impact it will have on our guests, employees and communities,” said Rob Katz, chairman and chief executive officer of Vail Resorts. “While it is incredibly disappointing for our Company to mark the end of the season so early, we know it is the most responsible path forward.”

Depending on the situation as well as weather conditions, the operator will consider whether or not to re-open Whistler Blackcomb, as well as Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado and Heavenly Mountain Resort in Lake Tahoe, in late April to early May.
Anyone with pre-bought lift tickets, lodging, classes, rentals, and more can reach out to the company for refunds and credits. According to Vail Resorts, a form will be made available on its websites for this process.
