BC Liquor Stores set to close on Sundays due to COVID-19 concerns

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Liquor stores made the long list of B.C.’s essential services amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but government shops will soon be shutting their doors on Sundays.

The measure, announced Thursday, is the latest change to be made in an effort to protect staff and customers from the novel coronavirus.

Sunday closures come into effect March 28.

Hours have already been scaled back, meaning stores will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Protective, plexiglass shields will be installed at checkouts over the coming weeks, starting with busy stores and stores in North Vancouver.

Customers will be asked to pack their purchases into bags themselves to minimize person-to-person contact.

Cleaning has been stepped up and the overall number of people allowed in stores has been limited.
