VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) – Surrey-Panorama MLA Jinny Sims has been cleared of any wrongdoing by special prosecutor Richard Peck in an ongoing probe by the RCMP.
Sims resigned from the B.C. cabinet as minister of Citizens’ Services in October of last year in light of the RCMP investigation. The claims against her haven’t been made public by investigators.
“On April 2, 2020 Mr. Peck was informed by the RCMP that their investigation into the matter revealed no evidence to support any of the allegations made against MLA Sims and that they had closed their investigation,” a release reads. “As a result, he has concluded there is no further action to take with respect to the matter and he has concluded his involvement.”
The Opposition B.C. Liberals have previously accused Sims of using personal emails to get around the province’s freedom of information laws, as well as writing letters to support visa applications for 10 Pakistani citizens who were on a security watchlist.
Sim said days after she resigned from the Citizens’ Services portfolio in 2019 that her name would be cleared and that the specific allegations against her had no credibility.
