ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) –Abbotsford’s BLOOM Tulip Festival may be cancelled this year, but organizers are offering one lucky person the chance to win a visit to roam among millions of brightly-coloured tulips.
The winner will be able to choose a time to visit along with members of their own household, and will be allowed to pick a bucketful of blooms.
“We wanted to find a safe way to allow at least a few people from the same household onto the site to enjoy the tulips while still adhering to provincial COVID-19 guidelines,” says Alexis Szarek, founder of BLOOM, in a statement.
The annual festival attracts thousands, and its cancellation is one of many throughout the region due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The contest is being held on Instagram, and the winner will be announced Friday.
Organizers hope the festival will resume next year.
“Unfortunately, this year the pandemic has forced the cancellation of the beloved festival but the tulips had already been planted and now through to early May, acres of fields are in full bloom creating a stunning display along HWY 1 near the Sumas exit in Abbotsford,” the statement reads.
“The event remains closed to the public until the BLOOM 2021 season.”
