COVID-19: Can I have 100-plus people at my wedding this summer?

NEWS 1130 is working hard to get you the information you need about the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are responding to your questions in a segment called NEWS 1130 Gets Answers.

Question:

This question came from Victoria: “Will we be able to have weddings with 100+ people in the summer/fall time?”

Answer:

Maybe.

On Wednesday, B.C. Premier John Horgan said the ban on gatherings of 50 or more people will remain in place until the province enters the fourth and final phase of its plan to re-open the economy.

That won’t happen until we have a vaccine, treatments or herd immunity for COVID-19, he said.

It’s possible we will have one or more of those things by the fall, but very unlikely by the summer. It could be many months before large gatherings are allowed again.

In the meantime, gatherings of 49 or fewer people will be allowed – with physical distancing protocols in place. So engaged couples may want to plan for smaller ceremonies.
