‘Wine Ninjas’ goes viral as group lifts Lower Mainland spirits

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A group that is lifting spirits around the Lower Mainland by delivering wine to doorsteps amid the COVID-19 pandemic has gone viral on social media.
Christina Kellie started the Lower Mainland Wine Ninjas in early May and already the Facebook page has close to 17,000 members.
“We have 563,000 posts, comments, and reactions in not even three weeks,” says Kellie.
The idea is simple — find someone’s address on the Facebook group, grab a bottle of wine (or some treats), and deliver it anonymously. Kellie adds that many “ninjas” do the deed in full costume and post their videos to the page to inspire others.
“We’re only five moms from Langley and Surrey,” says Kellie of the group’s humble beginnings, but adds that ninja deliveries are now happening from Richmond to Hope.
Kellie says the idea started when she dropped off some treats for a friend who was feeling down. She then found the Alberta Wine Ninjas on social media and decided to start one in B.C. to cheer people up during COVID-19.
“I thought it would be a nice switch, and it’s proven to be that and then some,” adds Kellie.
Ninjas can post videos of their stealthy deliveries, but a lot of them are posted by grateful recipients of the packages.
“We have a frontline worker album, so someone after a 12-hour shift at the hospital coming home to see that has been really great,” says Kellie.
