SURREY (NEWS 1130) — A pair of GoFundMe pages have popped up online to help the family of a CN Rail worker who was killed in Surrey.
Jasvinder Riar died during switching operations at a rail year around 2:00 a.m. Monday.
Together, the pages have raised more than $45,000 by Tuesday afternoon for the wife and nine-month-old son of Riar.
He was 31-years-old.
Organizers of the page say Riar was the sole provider for his family.
“During such a horrible time like this, those closest to Jas should not have to worry about finances,” reads the page.
“I know they say the good die young, but at 31 years old you were wiser than most could ever hope to be,” reads the second page written by Riar’s in law.
It includes a promise to give Amir everything Riar would have wanted him to have.
“I hope I can at least make him into a great man, one that was selfless and strong and true as his father was. I will miss you, my dear friend. You will be missed and you will never be forgotten, may your soul rest in eternal peace. A good heart has stopped beating, a good soul has left this world for the heavens.”
There have been very few details about the incident, although agencies investigating include the BC Coroners Service, WorkSafeBC, and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
