LANGLEY TOWNSHIP (NEWS 1130) — Water flows along the Fraser River have been peaking since last week, prompting the Township of Langley to put out evacuation notices to a number of property owners.
Public Works Director Roeland Zwaag says at this point, they’re hopeful the flows along the Fraser won’t prompt evacuations, as the peaks are expected to hit 6 metres Monday or Tuesday.
“‘That is, again, a little bit of good news, cause the previous forecast was 6.2. So, the lower the projected peak, the better for us,” he says.
“We know what that looks like, with respect to impacts on properties and roads, and we’re looking good. so at this time, we’re not anticipating any evacuation orders.”
Continued unseasonal wet weather in British Columbia is affecting water levels on the Fraser River. The River Forecast Centre is predicting the river to crest between July 5th and 9th. Visit https://t.co/tsCb4vfVci

The Fort Langley Marina Park is closed, as are several hiking trails including the Fort to Fort.
“Only the sections that are lower than the other ones are being flooded right now. and we’ve got some trail closures in place with barricades and flagging,” Zwaag explains.
Flood water levels are approaching peaks along the Fraser River not seen since 2012, and Zwaag is asking resident and visitors to remain on guard.
But again, we remind people to be vigilant. If they see water on the trails to avoid it, if they see any concerns to contact the Township of Langley.”
