Richmond RCMP says man apparently missing after jumping into Fraser River for football

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – Dive teams are on scene in Richmond after Mounties say a 24 year-old man had apparently jumped into the Fraser River to get a football Sunday night.
The RCMP says a call came in around 9:30 p.m. about a man in the water near Pier 73 of the Pacific Gateway Hotel marina.
A “significant search” was conducted involving the Coast Guard, RCMP, and fire crews overnight, but it was called off around midnight. The search focused on the area between the Oak Street Bridge and Vancouver International Airport Sunday evening.
The man has not yet been found.
However, Richmond RCMP confirmed Monday afternoon a body was discovered on the river’s edge after the tide went out, but the identity has not been released.

A high streamflow advisory has been issued for the lower Fraser River, with water levels continuing to rise rapidly.
“Flows in the key headwater tributaries have now peaked, and the pulse of runoff is travelling down from the Upper Fraser, Cariboo Mountains and Thompson River systems,” the B.C. River Forecast Centre website reads.
