Richmond RCMP take armed, barricaded man into custody following wellness check

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — Mounties in Richmond have safely taken a man who was in distress into custody near Garden City Road at Cambie Road.
Mounties were called to the area at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday after a man was allegedly heard threatening to burn down his home.
When RCMP arrived, Mounties found the man with a knife to his own throat. He retreated into a room.
“A Richmond RCMP officer, who is part of the Lower Mainland Crisis Negotiation Team, immediately attended scene while frontline officers secured the residence to ensure the safety and well-being of the male as well as the surrounding neighbours,” a release reads.
After the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team were mobilized, at around 4:30 p.m. the man was taken into custody uninjured.
Traffic in the area was blocked but has since reopened.
