VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Posters advertising a party on Third Beach to kick off the long weekend drew the attention of police, the park board and the province’s health minister but prospective partygoers evidently took a pass.
David Zura with CityNews saw no signs of a party when he stopped by Friday evening.
“It’s such a quiet night here tonight, I would call it an unusually quiet night on Third Beach,” he said.

Zura reported a small, socially distanced crowd.
“There’s an unusually large amount of space really for what is such a gorgeous evening.”
“If I look to my left, there’s a couple of guys playing frisbee. Right in front of me there’s a big patch of open beach, and to the right there’s a small group of young ladies hanging out and reading.”
Zura said there’s no way to know why the beach remained relatively empty, but there was speculation the whole thing was a hoax.
“Perhaps it was cancelled, perhaps no one showed up, maybe a little bit of both.”
