B.C. sets new daily record with 124 COVID-19 cases

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — B.C. set a new daily record on Friday with 124 COVID-19 cases.
The previous record was 109, set a week ago, while the new one is almost double the number of cases from yesterday.
The majority of the new cases are in the Fraser and Vancouver Coastal health regions, with 58 and 60, respectively.

Cases in B.C. now total 5,496. No more deaths were recorded, while the community outbreak in Haida Gwaii has been declared over.
“COVID-19 requires new ways of living our lives, with new precautions and routines for ourselves and our families, whether at home, work, school or when spending time with others,” health officials say.

“This includes keeping our numbers of contacts low, especially at indoor parties and events, whether in a hall or in our own home. We have seen transmission from even small events, and the last thing we want to do is pass COVID-19 to those we are closest to.”
Friday’s new record, along with total cases from the past two Saturdays are the three highest daily counts B.C. has seen:124, 109, 100.

Of 974 active cases in B.C. 23 people are in hospital, including seven who are intensive care. The recovery rate is 78 per cent.
The province is also monitoring 2,796 people who have been exposed to the virus.
Total deaths remain at 204.

No new outbreaks were reported Friday, although active ones remain at nine long-term care or assisted-living facilities and two acute-care wards.
“This weekend, let’s remember to use the layers of protection that keep ourselves and those around us safe. This is also a good time to think about the new routines that will be part of our activities into the fall,” health officials say.
“The efforts we make today make the difference for all of us tomorrow, so let’s renew our commitment to doing what we can to keep our province and ourselves safe.”
Cases by health region since the start of the pandemic: 1,791 in Vancouver Coastal; 2,878 in Fraser; 174 in Island; 433 in Interior;142 in Northern; and 78 people who reside outside of Canada.
