Surrey RCMP search for man who attacked traffic control flagger with weapon

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — A traffic control flagger has been sent to the hospital after a man with a weapon attacked her in Surrey Wednesday afternoon.

Cpl. Joanie Sidhu, with the Surrey RCMP, says around 2 p.m. a male on a bicycle had assaulted the traffic control flagger working in the Johnson Heights area of Surrey.

“The female victim was taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries and the male suspects fled on the bicycle and Surrey RCMP is actively looking for that individual right now,” Sidhu says.

She says the suspect is described as white, in his 30’s, heavy-set, wearing a baseball cap and he was riding a red mountain bike.

“If anyone does see an individual that matches this description. We ask that they call police immediately,” she says.

Since the investigation is in the early stages, Sidhu isn’t saying what weapon was used, or the extent of the flagger’s injuries.

If you have any information about the incident near 95A Avenue and 148 Street or have dashcam footage, contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
