COVID-19 outbreak declared at Delta Hospital

DELTA (NEWS 1130) — An outbreak of COVID-19 was declared Wednesday at Delta Hospital.

The Fraser Health Authority hasn’t indicated how many people are involved, or whether patients or staff members are infected.

The outbreak is the ninth active one in the health region. Burnaby Hospital also has an active outbreak after a heart patient tested positive.

On Tuesday, the province announced an outbreak at OPAL by Element, a retirement home in Burnaby, along with 97 new cases.

In total, 11 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and three acute-care facilities had active outbreaks.

Of 1,590 active cases in B.C., 63 people were in hospital, including 20 in intensive care.

Another 3,001 people were under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.
