Not criminally responsible hearing set for man convicted in Abbotsford high school stabbing death

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) — Whether the man convicted of murdering an Abbotsford teenager and severely injuring another student inside a local high school will be held criminally responsible won’t be determined until next month.
The lawyer for Gabriel Klein was back in court Thursday, asking to deem his client not criminally responsible for stabbing 13-year-old Letisha Reimer to death.
Dave Teixeira is a spokesperson for Reimer’s family.
“The whole thing was finished in March and all we had to do today was sentencing, and now it is a very feeble attempt by the child killer to re-open the case,” he says.
In finding him guilty of second-degree murder, the judge in the case says there was no evidence Klein’s mental health affected his ability to foresee the consequences of his actions.
Klein was deemed fit to stand trial in 2019 by the B.C. Review Board.
In November of 2016, he stabbed Latisha Remier 14 times while she was in school, killing her and severely injuring her friend.
The hearing is set for Oct. 16.
