Operation Red Nose scrapping safe ride service this holiday season

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Operation Red Nose has had to cancel its safe ride service this holiday season.
In a release, the organization cites health concerns for their volunteers as well as impacts to service as reasons behind the decision.
“The decision was made after long and careful consideration, and not without emotion,” Jean-Philippe Giroux, Executive Director for Operation Red Nose, says in a statement.
Operation Red Nose offers free rides each year to help prevent drivers from getting on the road while drinking.
While the service has been scrapped this year, Operation Red Nose will continue to advertise their road safety message in the lead up to the holidays.
“Even in the absence of the safe ride service this year … always plan for a safe way to get home by calling a friend, a relative, a cab, by designating a sober driver, or by staying overnight.”
