2nd-degree murder, assault charges laid against man in ‘family violence’ stabbing in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — A man has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault after a stabbing at a Surrey townhouse complex earlier this week left one woman dead and a two-year-old girl seriously injured.
Another man also sustained serious injuries in what RCMP called an “incident of family violence.”
A suspect was found near the townhome and arrested.
Harpreet Singh has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Baljit Kaur and two counts of aggravated assault against Jagjit Singh and a two-year-child, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed Thursday.
“All are members of the same family.”
According to IHIT, Harpreet Singh will make his next court appearance on Oct 29.

Officers were called to the townhouse complex in the Newton area just before 9 p.m. Tuesday after reports of a stabbing inside one of the units.
The woman was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, and later died there.
The girl is expected to survive.
