COVID-19 outbreak at Kelowna school prompts two-week closure

KELOWNA (NEWS 1130) — Kelowna’s École de l’Anse-au-sable — B.C.’s first school with a confirmed COVID-19 outbreak — is being shut down for two weeks, according to local media outlet Castanet. 

In a letter sent out to parents Sunday, administrators at the school say they’ve analyzed the situation, and say they have little choice but to close the doors until Nov. 4.

The closure was not ordered by Interior Health, which lists potential exposure dates as Oct. 13, 14, 15, 16, 19 and 20.

Provincial Health Officer, Doctor Bonnie Henry confirmed the declaration of an outbreak Wednesday. At that time, she said three people had tested positive and 160 were in self-isolation.

The number of confirmed cases has risen to 11.

Health officials will give the next update on VOVID-19 in the province on Monday.
