Kardashian roasted for birthday celebration on private island amid COVID-19

TORONTO (680 NEWS) — Kim Kardashian West was trending on Twitter Wednesday morning for a tweet she posted that has the internet roasting her.

With COVID-19 cases topping 44 million around the world, Kardashian West posted pictures of her 40th birthday party, with family and friends, on a private island.

“After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island, where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time,” she wrote in a tweet.

The post became a meme sensation, with many people sharing different pictures of Fantasy Island, Lord of the Flies, and Jurassic Park.

Meanwhile, others criticized her for being tone deaf.

Kardashian responded with more tweets: “40 and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter.”

Kardashian added she and her circle “danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is.”

Peter Frampton, the English rock musician who wrote the song Baby I love Your Way, criticized Kardashian on Twitter.

“Are you that insensitive you don’t realize this is not what the majority of people during the worst covid spike yet want to hear? People are going to food banks, not private islands,” he wrote.

So far, there have been more than eight million cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with over 227,000 associated deaths.
