COVID-19-related fines in effect for Lower Mainland limos, party buses

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — Anyone caught operating or riding in a party bus or “group limousine” in Metro Vancouver while COVID-19 restrictions are in place will now face a fine of up to $2,000, according to B.C.’s Minister of Public Safety.
New restrictions that came into effect Nov. 7 prohibit operating limos and party buses and “attending a social gathering” in one of those vehicles. The ban remains in effect until Nov. 23 and affects the Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health regions.
“People who operate or permit operation of perimeter-seating vehicles or perimeter-seating buses in contravention of the PHO’s orders will be subject to a $2,000 fine. People taking part in a social gathering on a bus or limousine in these regions could face individual fines of $200,” according to Minister Mike Farnworth.

Tickets can be issued by police, bylaw officers, liquor, cannabis and gaming inspectors, and conservation officers.

“Shuttles and small buses may still operate to transport people to and from work, work meetings or health-care appointments,” according to the province.
Violations of provincial health orders can be reported to municipal bylaw officers. Anyone who has trouble reaching city officials can call the non-emergency line of their local police department.
