COVID-19 outbreak at White Rock care home spreads to 23 residents, 16 staff

WHITE ROCK (NEWS 1130) — A COVID-19 outbreak at the White Rock Seniors Village has spread to 23 residents and 16 staff, according to a bulletin posted to the facility’s website Saturday.
The outbreak at the home, which has 71 beds, was first declared Nov. 4.
The affected residents all live on the third floor of the long-term care building, and their families have been notified.
“Following the direction of the Medical Health Officer and Fraser Health, the residents will remain in their rooms with dedicated care staff. Extra precautions continue to be in place for the entire community,” the online update reads.
The 16 workers are self-isolating at home.
“These staff members will be contacted daily. We are working closely with Fraser Health to ensure appropriate staffing levels are in place during this time,” the post reads.
All employees are being tested for the coronavirus.
The facility also has an independent living wing, and no cases have been reported among staff or residents there.
However, the home is reminding those residents that new a new regional public health order prohibits any social gatherings in homes. Recreation activities have been cancelled through Nov. 23.
“Essential visits continue to be allowed but must be booked in advance through our visitation coordinators,” the website says.
Deliveries are still being accepted but with a number of restrictions.
Reusable bags are not allowed, neither is homemade food or fruit.
