COVID-19 outbreak at Vancouver General Hospital respiratory unit

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Vancouver General Hospital’s respiratory unit after patients tested positive for the virus, according to the health authority.
The unit is closed to new admissions and transfers for now. Visitors aren’t allowed until outbreak measures are lifted, according to Vancouver Coastal Health, but here is an exception for compassionate visits at the end of life.

The number of cases wasn’t disclosed and the health authority didn’t say if any staff were infected.
VGH is open and Vancouver Coastal urges people to go if they need urgent or emergency care.

“Please do not delay in seeking care as this could exacerbate your condition,” reads a release from the health authority. “Vancouver General Hospital will continue to admit for all patient populations and this outbreak will not impact the care of patients with respiratory diseases, including transplant patients or others that require specialized care.”
COVID-19 prevention measures and protocols have been brought while patients and their families are being notified.
