Man arrested after senior pushed to the ground, hurt in downtown Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A 73-year-old man who was pushed to the ground by another person on Sunday has suffered injuries to his hand.

Vancouver police say it happened outside a downtown shelter. Police were called by shelter staff after they saw a 43-year-old man push the senior, who walks with a cane, to the ground and walk away.

The VPD says the suspect was found nearby and arrested.

“He has an extensive history of being violent with both the public and the police,” the VPD says, adding the man “actively resisted arrest” but was eventually taken into custody.

“The suspect also had two outstanding arrest warrants.”

The VPD says charges for assault, resisting arrest, and possession of credit card data — after a card not belonging to him was found on his person — have been recommended.
