Two years since B.C. cowboy went missing; RCMP say he was likely killed

MERRITT (NEWS 1130) – Tuesday marks two years since the manager of the Nicola Ranch in Merritt disappeared.

A couple months after Ben Tyner went missing in 2019, RCMP confirmed it was a suspicious case. Mounties now tell RadioNL in Kamloops he was likely killed.

His father, Richard, is offering a $15,000 reward for any information that will help give his family closure.

“We’re constantly praying that someone who knows something will come forward. Our hope is that we can find Ben and be able to determine what happened. We know many local people have continued to search for Ben and for that, we are extremely grateful,” he told RadioNL.

Richard adds the family deserves to know what happened to him.

“He was there to lend a hand whenever someone needed help. He was always going to be a gentle giant with an incredible bear hug that made you feel needed, wanted, and loved. To have to live with Ben’s loss is the most painful, excruciating experience ever.”

Tyner was 32 when he moved to the Nicola Valley from Wyoming. A few months later, he was reported missing.

He was last seen on Jan. 26, 2019 as he rode out on horseback, possibly to search for cattle in the surrounding hills. He was reported missing two days later when his saddled horse was found wandering on a logging road off Highway 97C near Winnie Flats.
