Cougar euthanized after attack north of Whistler leaves man with ‘major injuries’

WHISTLER (NEWS 1130) – A 69-year-old man has suffered “major injuries” to his face and hand after being mauled by a cougar near his Soo Valley property, north of Whistler.

According to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service, the attack happened Monday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m.

Whistler RCMP officers were the first to get to the man after the attack. When they arrived, the BCCOS says the cougar was euthanized.

“He was taken to hospital via ambulance and is reportedly in stable condition,” the BCCOS says of the man in a tweet.

It’s believed there is no risk to the public. Conservation officers are expected to provide further details on Tuesday.
