No sign of Chilliwack mother after water, air searches Wednesday

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – After another day of searching, there’s still no sign of the missing Chilliwack mother and police are turning to the public for help.

Dive teams were out in the Fraser River Wednesday in hopes of finding some indication of what happened to 23-year-old Shaelene Keeler Bell, who hasn’t been seen since Saturday.

Upper Fraser Valley RCMP’s Cpl. Mike Rail explains teams were searching in the water and from the sky, without any luck.

“There is a very high concern for Shaelene’s safety and wellbeing,” he says.

Rail says tips are coming in, but police need the public to come forward to help with the investigation.

Bell’s vehicle, a 2021 Hyundai Tucson, was found abandoned Monday on Ballam Road near the Fraser River.

Rail says investigators are focused on searching the area where it was found, but couldn’t say anymore.

“A missing person, it affects the whole community. We’re all watching for her,” he says.

There isn’t any evidence to suggest foul play at this time, Rail adds.

The mother of two was last seen at her apartment on Edward Street.

Her mother, Alina Durham, said the disappearance is highly unusual and is worried for her daughter’s safety.

“Shaelene’s boys mean everything to her. Anyone who knows my daughter knows she would never leave her boys,” she said Tuesday. “Her boys are her whole life. It’s so out of character for her.”

She is 5’2” tall, weighs around 95 pounds, and has blonde hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is urged to call Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
