PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) – Thursday marks one month since the high-profile disappearance of Trina Hunt in Port Moody.

Efforts to find the missing 48-year-old have so far uncovered little. She was last seen at her home around 6 a.m. on Jan. 18.

Her husband reported her missing later that day when he returned home from work.

Police issued a statement on Wednesday saying they are still pursuing all possible avenues of investigation.

“We have also contacted our partners at the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), as part of that team’s mandate is to investigate suspicious missing person cases where foul play is suspected. At this time, evidence indicates that this missing person case does not meet IHIT’s mandate,” the Port Moody Police Department’s statement reads.

While the homicide team is not part of the investigation, Port Moody Police Chief Dave Fleugel explains there are still plenty of highly trained experts involved.

“We certainly utilized their support in this case early on,” explains Fleugel. “We were liaising with them. We had great support from IHIT and after a number of hours and days of investigation, we’ve come to the conclusion that IHIT can no longer continue to assist us, because we don’t have any evidence of foul play.”

However, just because IHIT is no longer involved, Fleugel acknowledges nothing is being ruled out.

“Our minds are open, absolutely to all possibilities,” says Fleugel. “We did have a lot of people on this case over the last month. We called out our major crimes section initially, the very first day — we believed it was serious enough to call out our higher trained detectives.”

Hunt’s absence has sparked an outpouring of community support in the days following her disappearance. Hundreds of people have volunteered their time to search for her, helping police comb nearby areas near her Heritage Woods home.

More recently, people have been putting up posters throughout Port Moody.

There have also been a number of candlelight vigils — done virtually due to the pandemic.

“The community was absolutely incredible with regards to a community organized search,” says Fleugel. “Many, many people that were searching didn’t even have any connection to the family or know Trina, so we were really impressed with the people that were engaged with this.”

Fleugel is also acknowledging the help from search and rescue teams in the early days following Hunt’s disappearance.

Hunt was last thought to be wearing a puffy black North Face branded jacket with a teal green collar and purple running shoes.

If you have any information about her whereabouts, you’re asked to contact Port Moody police at 604.461.3456.
