KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) — Alberta’s WHL teams are set to face off Friday, but the Western Hockey League is still waiting for B.C.’s top doctor to approve plans for a shortened season in this province.
If approved, the five B.C. Division teams — including the Vancouver Giants — will play all 24 games in Kamloops and Kelowna.
Dr. Albert de Villiers with the Interior Health Authority says plans for B.C. remain under discussion.
“There’s been no final decision made I have seen the proposal and it does look like they do want to put certain things in place to make sure the players and the communities and everybody’s site. The final call will be from Dr. Henry so I’ll leave that up to her to make the final decision,” he says.

Dr. Albert de Villiers, the Chief Medical Officer for @Interior_Health, says Dr. Bonnie Henry has the final say, but, “They can make it work with the current plans they do have in place.”#bcpoli @NEWS1130

DeVilliers says he thinks the proposal is workable, noting other provinces have found a way to get players back on the ice.
“We are the last one that’s been holding out,” he says.
“We’re leaving that up to the province, for now, to make that final decision.
Health Minister Adrian Dix has said an announcement may be forthcoming, but the season remains in limbo.
