BC Ferries adds new fare options between Vancouver Island, mainland

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – BC Ferries is adding some new options for fares on its major routes.
As of Wednesday, travellers can buy a new Saver fare or a Prepaid fare for trips between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
BC Ferries says the Saver fare is its most affordable and is available on less-busy sailings. This cost ranges between $49 and $73.70, includes a free reservation, and will be available for select sailings throughout the year.
The Prepaid fare lets customers book and pay for their full travel in advance, saving time at check-in. Customers save $7 on reservation fees when they book more than seven days in advance.
We are introducing the new fare choices now to test our systems & ensure a smooth process for customers once it is safe to resume travel again. We continue to ask customers to follow PHOs and guidelines to avoid non-essential travel.

“Our routes between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island account for about 60 per cent of overall ferry traffic, so we are introducing our new fare choices on these routes first,” says BC Ferries President and CEO Mark Collins.
Both fare options are only available for advance purchase.
British Columbians are being reminded that non-essential travel is not recommended at this time. BC Ferries says the new fare options will be expanded to other routes once non-essential travel is given the OK.
