Courage to Come Back Awards go virtual for 2021

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Celebrating those who have overcome adversity and who give back to their communities, the 23rd Courage To Come Back Awards are set for May 29 — and everyone in B.C. is invited.

This year, the event is going virtual, with a 30-minute commercial-free broadcast streaming live on citynews1130.com.

It will be hosted by Olympian, former Canucks goaltender, and Sportsnet 650 analyst Corey Hirsch, who himself is a past Courage To Come Back award recipient.

Organized by Coast Mental Health, the awards recognize five British Columbians in the categories of Mental Health, Addiction, Youth, Medical, and Physical Rehabilitation.

“Never have these stories of resilience and strength been more relevant than now. As the Chair of Coast Mental Health’s Courage To Come Back Awards for 16 years now, I am proud to know these stories of human triumph over adversity will reach so many at a time when hope is so important,” says Lorne R. Segal.

“I do hope you will save the date and join us (virtually!)”

The event has raised nearly 20 million dollars to support people living with mental illness since 1999.

“Each year, thanks to the generosity of donors, Coast Mental Health provides essential services to over 5,200 clients living with mental illness, so they can find their meaningful place in our communities – a place to live, a place to connect, and a place to work,” says a statement form Coast Mental Health.
