PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) – There’s been yet another cougar sighting in Port Moody, just days after a small dog had to be put down when it was attacked by what’s believed to have been the same animal.
Port Moody Police Sgt. Ian Morrison says they were called to the area of Bert Flinn Park at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
“This cougar was just kind of lying in the front yard of a residence there. That was all it was doing, it was just lying, almost at rest, in this front yard,” Morrison said.
“We’ve had the one last week, where the poor folks had their dog attacked and it actually died as a result of its injuries. We believe it’s the same cat,” he added.

Small dog put down after Port Moody cougar attack
In last week’s attack, the small dog was on a leash when it was attacked near Foxwood Drive. The owner apparently didn’t hear the cougar come out from the bushes behind them. The pup was rushed to the emergency vet clinic, but couldn’t be saved. The owner was not harmed.
Morrison has some advice for people, especially those living in that area:
“Until Conservation resolves the matter, they need to be really aware. If they’re out, walking in the trails — even walking in their neighbourhoods, and especially if they’re walking their pets — they need to be vigilant. They need to be aware of their surroundings.”

A cougar attack also killed a German Shepherd puppy in Anmore on Thursday. The owner had just received the three-month-old pup a week before, with the hopes of training it as a search and rescue dog.
It’s unclear if this was the same cougar.
