Many Canadians not confident public spaces are being properly disinfected: poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Do you find yourself wiping down surfaces in public spaces amid the COVID-19 pandemic?

For the last year, we have been extra cautious about cleaning, but a new survey finds more than half of Canadians aren’t confident public spaces are being properly disinfected.

The Leger poll done for Clorox Canada has found six-in-10 Canadians say they disinfect at least one surface when they are outside their homes, especially shopping cart handles.

The survey finds Canadians on average disinfect nearly three surfaces when they’re out, with cell phones also making the list of items that get a wipe down.

Canadians seem to be most worried about how often public bathrooms, door handles, gas station pumps, and elevator buttons are disinfected, with more than 50 per cent of respondents voicing concern for each of these things.

Women are significantly more likely to disinfect most items when outside the home, at 51 per cent. Meanwhile, those with children under the age of 18 say they’re more likely to disinfect surfaces compared to those without children.
