Dr. Bonnie Henry, Greta Thunberg receiving honorary degrees from UBC

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and climate activist Greta Thunberg are being recognized by UBC with honorary degrees.

Dr. Henry will get hers from UBC and Thunberg will receive her honorary degree from UBC Okanagan.

“Dr. Henry and Ms. Thunberg have served as leading voices in the midst of two of the most significant crises we collectively have ever faced: the global pandemic and climate change. They are truly an inspiration to us all at UBC,” UBC President and Vice-Chancellor Santa J. Ono says.

Henry and Thunberg are among 18 people who will be receiving honorary degrees this spring.

UBC often gives honorary degrees to individuals who make “substantial” contributions to society. There are three types of degrees; Doctor of Laws, Doctor of Letters and Doctor of Science.

Dr. Henry will receive a Doctor of Science while Thunberg will get a Doctor of Laws.
