Vancouver pizza shop closes until further notice amid Corduroy controversy

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Corduroy Pie Co., a popular pizza shop in Vancouver, says it’s going to be closed “until further notice” as it navigates “through a new ownership structure.”

The pizza place is located on West 16th Avenue. It is not the same Corduroy restaurant which was forced to shut down after defying COVID-19 public health orders last week.

But the owners of the Corduroy Restaurant in Kitsilano are part owners of the Pie Co., according to a previous post on the latter’s Facebook page.

“They are not operating partners in Corduroy Pie Co. and they don’t set protocol pertaining to operations at Corduroy Pie Co.,” the business at 758 W. 16 Avenue wrote on April 3, prior to announcing its closure on Wednesday.

Those comments came after the business apparently received a slew of messages from people in response to the controversy around the Kitsilano restaurant, which made headlines after refusing to follow the indoor dining ban currently in place due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.

“Since March 2020 we have adhered to every and all Covid requirements for restaurants,” Corduroy Pie Co. wrote.

It’s unclear what exactly the “new ownership structure” at Corduroy Pie Co. entails or when the business will reopen.

In the days since making headlines, the Kitsilano restaurant has temporarily lost its business licence.
