1,205 new COVID cases in B.C., record number of people hospitalized

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The spread of COVID-19 in B.C. isn’t showing signs of slowing down, with another 1,205 cases reported on Thursday.
There are 409 people hospitalized with the virus in the province, surpassing the previous all-time high which was recorded on Wednesday with 397 patients.
Of those hospitalized, 125 are in the ICU, up from 120 on Wednesday.
Three more people have died.
In total, 116,075 people have been infected with COVID-19 and 1,524 have died since the pandemic began.

On the vaccine front, 1,235,863 doses have been administered, 87,820 of which are second doses.
British Columbians aged 50 and up and Indigenous people aged 18 and up can register online or by phone to book a vaccination.
Anyone aged 55 to 65 can also call a local pharmacy to book an appointment to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry again implored British Columbians to do their part to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in this province.
“This is our third wave … we have done this before, and we can do it again,” she said.
“Remember that we have it within us to take these small sacrifices every day to get us through this next period of time. We are not alone in this fight anymore. We have vaccines on our side, but we need to buy the time to protect those people who are ending up with severe illness and ending up in hospital right now. We need to … protect our hospital system, to protect our friends, our families.”
