LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – Police are condemning a shooting in broad daylight, which has left a male victim dead near the Langley Sportsplex.
Sgt. Frank Jang with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says it happened just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
“There’s a skating rink here, there’s a children’s playground. There’s a lot of activity going on … For such a brazen shooting to happen in a public area is not only concerning, but is also infuriating,” he said.
The victim was a man in his 40s and was well-known to police.
Police believe it was a targeted shooting.
“Given what we know of who we believe our victim is, somebody this morning set out to kill him. We’re confident in that,” Jang said.

Police are looking for dashcam footage from the area of the Langley Sportsplex and from Riverside Drive in Port Coquitlam, where a grey Dodge pickup was lit on fire shortly after the shooting.
This was the third deadly shooting — and the second during daylight hours — in Metro Vancouver this week.
On Monday, a man was shot to death near the basketball court at Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park on Pinetree Way. It happened at around 6:30 p.m., when police say there were between 40 and 50 people at the park.
IHIT believes that shooting was targeted and may have been linked to gangs.
